About PsykiatriFonden | The Danish Mental Health Fund

PsykiatriFonden is a private humanitarian organisation/fund (NGO).

PsykiatriFonden's mission is to provide information on mental health issues to the public, including information about mental disorders, their causes, prevention and treatment.

Among other things PsykiatriFonden hosts seminars and events, publishes books and the quarterly journal 'Psykiatri-Information', offers tuition in schools nationwide, offers counselling to individuals suffering from mental health problems (including public and private sector employees with a view to preventing extended periods of sick leave).

PsykiatriFonden's hotline is staffed 12 hours a day, all year round.

PsykiatriFonden was founded in 1996 and has 70 employees and 70 volunteers.

HRH Crown Princess Mary is the patron of PsykiatriFonden.

The Danish Mental Health Fund’s Children and Youth Project
was established in 2002 and is aimed at youngsters between the ages of 13-19. A central part of the project is a big bus, that tours schools, colleges and other institutions inviting young people on board to learn and talk about mental health. On board there are 2 educators with experience from the field of social psychiatry.

It is the firm conviction of the Fund, that the best route to social inclusion for people with mental health problems is education and awareness raising at an early age. The busproject is twofold: it aims to inform and support the children of parents with mental health problems and children who themselves have mental health problems and it provides an education programme to inform the wider young population of Denmark about mental illness.

In 2007 The Danish Mental Health Fund’s Youth Project was started. The project is aimed at students in continuation schools, who are given education in mental illnesses and mental health. The most mentally vulnerable students are offered psychological help. Teachers and student advisers are offered education and supervision. The continuation schools have a high drop-out rate, and the often stated reason is personal and psychological problems. The main purpose of the project is supporting the youngsters in completing the education.
